The Companion Journal

Dad the F*ck Up, front cover

Every Dad Mission the book asks you to write down has a page in here, laid out properly, with the room it actually needs.

Reading on Kindle? This is where the writing goes. Reading in print? Take it anyway. The report card gets written in crayon; your part gets written here.

How to use it

  1. Print it, or don't. Print the whole thing, print a month at a time, or keep the PDF in whatever notes app you already use. All three work.
  2. Find today's day number. The journal runs Day 001 to Day 365 in the same order as the book.
  3. Write it down properly. Not in your head. The difference between thinking it and writing it is most of why this works.
  4. Sign the gate contracts. One per month, in pen. Promises you don't sign are promises you don't keep, and your kids can tell the difference.

Why it exists

The book asks you to write something almost every day: the mission done with your kids, the gate contract signed and dated, the score kept honestly somewhere you can't quietly edit it later.

On a screen there's nowhere to do that. So the writing moved here, and it's free, because charging you twice for one book would be exactly the kind of thing this book tells you to stop tolerating.
