STACK THE F*CK UP

How Do I Pay Off Debt on a Schedule Instead of Whenever I Can?

Debt gets paid off on a schedule the same way anything else does: automate it. A fixed payment moves on payday, before the money feels like yours; cards get used as tools and cleared by midnight; and the balance goes on the monthly statement so it cannot hide. Stack The F*ck Up phrases the house rule as zero by midnight, cards are tools and interest is a tip, and the daily moves build the habit around it.

Whenever I can means never

Debt paid when there is money left over gets paid in the months there is money left over, which is not many. A scheduled payment on payday reverses the order: the debt is paid, and life runs on what remains.

Cards are tools; interest is a tip

The Stack house rule reframes the card: a tool you use and clear, not a loan you carry. Zero by midnight where you can. When you cannot, the balance goes on the statement in your own handwriting, which is more motivating than any app notification.

Report it monthly

The monthly statement lists the debt balance next to the buffer balance. Two numbers, opposite directions, twelve times a year. Watching one fall while the other rises is the entire emotional engine of getting out.

Do not let the freed payment evaporate

When a debt clears, its payment already exists in your cashflow. Redirect it, the same day, into the buffer or the next debt. Related: stopping the paycheck-to-paycheck loop.

365 days of no-bullsh*t money moves. Know your three numbers, fire the leaks, build the buffer, sign the house rules.

Should I pay off debt or build savings first?

Both, small and automatic: a starter buffer so an emergency does not become new debt, then the debt on schedule. Stack The F*ck Up sequences it that way across the year.

What is the best day to schedule a debt payment?

Payday, or the day after. Money that leaves before it feels like yours is money you never have to be disciplined about.
