SHUT THE F*CK UP
How Do I Become a Better Listener? One Rep a Day
You become a better listener the way you build any skill: one measured rep a day. Start by clocking your talk-listen ratio for one honest day: most people hate the number. Then train the two-second pause before every reply, ask one real question daily, and let the ratio fall for a year.
Measure the mouth first
Month One of Shut The F*ck Up is called The Wake-Up, and Day 3 is the audit: one ordinary day, honestly clocked: how much of every conversation was you. Nobody likes the number. The number is the starting stat, and stats you refuse to measure do not improve.

The two-second pause
Two seconds of silence after someone finishes is the highest-leverage habit in human conversation. It kills the interruption reflex, it signals that you actually processed what was said, and about half the time the other person keeps going: into the part they were not going to say.
Ask the question you already know the answer to less
Fixers listen for a gap to insert the solution. Listeners ask the next honest question and wait. The book drills question reps daily: with your spouse, your kids, your team, until people start telling you things they tell no one else. That sentence is on the back cover because it is the entire payoff.
Sign the month
Every month ends in a gate you score and sign in your own hand. Listening improves in private, invisible increments, and the signed gates are how you catch the compounding: the ratio falling, the pause holding, the conversations changing shape.
Shut The F*ck Up
365 days of closing your mouth and mastering the art of listening. The pause, the questions, the ratio. One rep a day.
What is a good talk-listen ratio?
In most conversations, aiming to listen more than you talk changes everything: people open up in the space you stop filling. Day 3 of Shut The F*ck Up has you measure your real ratio, and the rest of the year trains it downward.
Can listening really be trained like a muscle?
Yes. Interrupting, fixing, and one-upping are reflexes, and reflexes retrain through daily reps. One page a day for 365 days is a training plan, not a personality transplant.
