LIFETIME BLUEPRINT

How Do I Set Life Goals That Are Bigger Than New Year Resolutions?

Life goals fail as resolutions because a resolution is dated and a life is not. The fix is to define, for each domain of your life, what the Ideal actually looks like in behavior, score where you are against it, and then measure the gap at intervals for the rest of your life. Lifetime Blueprint builds this in: eight domains scored Past, Present and Ideal, revisited across twelve snapshots. The goal is not January. The goal is the shape.

Resolutions expire. Ideals do not

A resolution dies on the day it was supposed to be done. An Ideal is a description of the person you are becoming, scored, and re-scored. It cannot be failed by February, only measured against.

Describe the Ideal in behavior

The Blueprint’s rubrics force this: what does a nine in Money look like as behavior, not as a bank balance? What does an eight in Relationships look like on a Tuesday? Behavioral targets survive circumstance in a way numeric ones do not.

The gap is the plan

Present minus Ideal, per domain, is your to-do list for the next five years. Not twelve goals in January: three domains where the gap is widest, and one habit each. That is a plan you can actually run.

Re-score, do not restart

Every snapshot re-scores the same eight domains against the same Ideal. You never restart from zero. You just read the new gap and adjust. For the daily reps that close those gaps, the 365-day books are the tool: here is which one to start with.

Lifetime Blueprint

A guided journal built for the long arc of a life: eight domains, seven decades, twelve snapshots, eleven letters, one record honest enough to be inherited.

What is the difference between a life goal and a yearly goal?

A yearly goal is a task with a deadline. A life goal is a state you want to be true, described in behavior, that you keep measuring toward. Run five kilometers by June is yearly. Be a person whose body is an asset at seventy is life-scale.

How many life goals should I have?

One Ideal per domain is plenty: eight in the Blueprint’s system. More than that and they compete; fewer and something important gets no target.
