The short answer: Looksmaxxing is internet slang for maximizing how you look. The harmless version is old advice in new packaging: sleep, training, grooming, clothes that fit. The dangerous version escalates into extreme dieting, steroid talk, and worse. The word covers both, which is exactly why parents should know it.
The harmless version, translated
Strip the slang away and most looksmaxxing advice is what a good coach or a sharp granddad would tell you: sleep eight hours, train consistently, wash your face, get a decent haircut, wear clothes that fit, stand up straight. The packaging is new. The content is old and mostly right.
The dangerous version, named
The same word also covers the escalation: starvation dieting, steroid and sarm talk, so-called bonesmashing, surgery obsession, and rating systems that grade human faces. That version treats a teenage body like a project car and it hurts people. MAXX The F*ck Up bans all of it on page one, in a section called The Five Bans, before a single quest starts.
How to tell which version you are looking at
Ask one question: does the advice build a habit or attack a body? Habits compound and cost nothing: bedtime, reps, water, sunscreen. Attacks promise shortcuts and escalate: pills, hammers, scalpels, contempt. The first version has a bedtime. The second version has a forum.

Not automatically. Ask what he means by it. Sleep, gym, haircuts and skincare are healthy. Talk of bones, steroids, extreme diets, or rating faces is the version to interrupt.
