LIFETIME BLUEPRINT
How to Score Your Health From 0 to 10 (It Is Not Your Weight)
Part of the series The Eight Domains of Life, Scored: The Complete Guide
Health is the substrate. Without it, every other domain compounds at a fraction of its potential, which is why it is scored first and fixed first. The score is not about what you weigh. It is about whether your body is being kept in a way that sustains the years still ahead: the work, the presence, the relationships you intend to carry forward. A lean person who sleeps five hours and has not seen a doctor in a decade scores lower than a heavier person with seven hours, three workouts a week and a checkup on the calendar, and the rubric is built to say so.
The six bands, in observable terms
Crisis, 0 to 1: active medical emergency, addiction in acute phase, or sustained behavior causing imminent harm; other domains cannot function. Struggling, 2 to 3: chronic neglect, poor sleep most nights, no exercise, untreated medical issues, dependence on substances to function. Surviving, 4 to 5: basic functioning with no margin, mediocre sleep, occasional movement, eating on autopilot; will degrade without correction. Steady, 6 to 7: seven-plus hours of sleep, movement three or more times a week, thoughtful eating, preventive care; the body could sustain its current load indefinitely. Thriving, 8 to 9: all of that plus active strength, endurance or skill development; the body is improving, not maintained, with energy left for late-day work and full presence with the people you love. Exceptional, 10: elite by any objective measure, extremely rare, reserved for people whose physical practice is itself a life accomplishment.

Why the substrate argument is not health moralizing
Every other domain draws on energy, mood and cognition, and those are manufactured in one place. Try repairing a marriage on five hours of sleep and watch patience, the actual currency of repair, fail to load. Try building a savings habit while running on caffeine and adrenaline and watch discipline lose to biology by Thursday. This is dependency mapping, not virtue: a 3 in Health quietly caps Mind, Work and Family at a 5 no matter how hard those domains are worked, which is why the whole method sequences it first and why Health does not need to reach Thriving before you move on. It needs to stop taxing everything else.
Why people mis-score this one
Two directions. Readers who look fit inflate, because the mirror is the wrong instrument: the rubric asks about sleep, preventive care and sustainable load, none of which show in a photograph. Readers who feel bad about their bodies deflate, scoring a 3 for a body that is actually at a 5 with a fixable sleep problem, and then giving up on a domain that needed one correction. The cure for both is the worked example in the book, which scores a decade of Health in phases, steady years, a decline, a recovery, weighted by duration, so that one bad year does not become the whole score and one good summer does not either.
How to move one band in a year
From Surviving to Steady is the move most readers need and it is almost entirely sleep and frequency: a fixed bedtime that produces seven hours, movement three times a week at any intensity, and one preventive appointment booked. Nothing heroic; the band is defined by consistency, not performance. From Steady to Thriving is a different project, the deliberate development of strength or endurance, and it should only start once Steady has held for a year. Score it honestly, name the gap on the page, and check the number at the next snapshot. The eight domains holds the full system; why Health goes first makes the triage case; the year-long engine for the daily version of this is a different book entirely, and taking care of yourself is where it begins.
Lifetime Blueprint
The hardcover built to be inherited: eight life domains scored across decades, thirty life-event templates, and letters written forward, ending in a Final Letter.
How do you rate your physical health honestly?
Against observable criteria rather than the mirror: hours of sleep, movement per week, preventive care, whether the body could sustain its current load indefinitely. A 6 to 7 means seven hours, three sessions a week and a checkup booked; the number is not about weight.
What does a healthy lifestyle score look like?
Steady, 6 to 7: consistent sleep, regular movement, thoughtful eating and preventive care. Thriving, 8 to 9, adds active improvement in strength, endurance or skill and energy left over for others at the end of the day.
